Teeing Off on a New Chapter: A Mom’s Golfing Journey

As a busy mom of two, I am constantly finding myself juggling a million tasks every day. Between school runs, work, cooking meals, and managing the household, it often feels like my personal time is always at the bottom of the to-do list. It started to bother me, and I was growing a little tired of always putting myself last. I wanted more for myself. Something that would spark excitement and joy for myself, but also allow me to connect with my husband and family in a new way. I was not exactly sure what this “something” was going to be, but I knew in my heart that it was time to put myself first in a new way.
My journey to find my new “something” started unexpectedly on a weekend getaway in Lake George, NY at The Sagamore Resort where my husband and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary. (I am including the hyperlink to the resort just because this resort truly is a gem and a must stay. The property is absolutely gorgeous - spectacular views as it is on its own island with the mountains as a backdrop. There is a beautiful 18-hole Donald Ross-designed golf course, spa, multiple restaurants on the property, and very family friendly-truly something for everyone.) At the time, we were leaving our daughter with my parents for the weekend and we were VERY much looking forward to this time together. My idea of the perfect getaway would be to spend the entire weekend at the spa and in bed ordering room service. My husband on the other hand is the opposite. When provided with the opportunity to rest, he wants to go, go, go and fit in as much fun as humanly possible. With our limited time, compromises had to be made and surprise, surprise to who made the compromise…me…thus resulting in my very first golf outing. My husband has always been an avid golfer, but for some reason or another I just had never gone with him before (maybe it's because I had to stay home with the baby…) Anyway, it didn’t take too much convincing for me to join him, plus I have always thought driving the golf cart looked like a lot of fun. Needless to say, it was! The course was absolutely beautiful and reconnecting with my husband while sharing something that he loves was priceless.
After coming home from our weekend away and reflecting, I realized that golf truly offers the perfect balance of fun, relaxation and family connection I was looking for. Thus, the start of my journey to learn golf began. Of course when I told my husband that I wanted to take learning golf seriously, he was very excited and very supportive (because that meant more golf for him), which brings me to the present. At first, it might seem like a surprising choice. After all, golf requires time, patience, and concentration—things that don't always come easy when you're a mom with a packed schedule. But I am excited about this new challenge and it has turned into one of the best decisions I’ve made for my family, my self-care, and my own personal growth.
I am very much in the beginning stages of learning golf and I am excited to share my ups, down, and everything in between as I begin this journey. I am excited to try something new and it is my hope that by sharing my story, other moms might feel encouraged to do the same—whether it’s taking up golf or pursuing another hobby or passion they’ve always been interested in!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my very first blog post. If you find yourself relating to me, I encourage you to continue to follow me on my journey to learn golf and all that comes along with it. Just as learning golf is new for me, blogging is also a new creative outlet as well. So I ask for your patience and very much appreciate your support as I develop this blog and website!
